The best value skiing

How good are our holidays in terms of value?

We put the Ski Miquel package holiday to the test against a range of other holidays to see which is the best value, and we found that unless you want to drive to the resort and cook for yourself, our package holidays are the outright winner, easily saving you a few hundred pounds on the cost of your holiday.

Staff at the Chalet Rosa

What do we offer?

The Ski Miquel chalet-hotel package is ATOL protected and our prices include flights from Gatwick or Manchester, transfers to and from resort, accommodation with ensuite rooms and chalet board, and a complimentary ski hosting service.

Our chalet-hotels have a variety of room options, all with ensuite bathrooms and good quality mattresses to ensure a good night’s sleep after a long day on the slopes.  We have friendly staff with local knowledge, and we have cheap bars where you can socialise with our other guests and relax off the slopes.

Your discounted lift pass will be collected and given to you after your arrival, and your ski or snowboard equipment can be collected from the rental shop at a convenient time, often with free storage included close to the lifts.

We do the cooking!

You will be provided with tasty meals cooked by our professional chefs and served by our chalet hosts, with any specific dietary requirements catered for.  We offer ‘chalet board’, which is breakfast every morning, afternoon tea on 6 days, and an evening meal on 6 nights with wine.

The breakfast comprises a continental buffet with hot egg and porridge options, and the evening meal comprises a starter, main course and dessert, with canapés served beforehand and a cheese course served after the meal, with complimentary wine offered up until the cheese is served.

The meals are served on large tables in the dining room, so everyone eats together and can chat about their day's adventures.

Ski Hosting with friends

We offer a ski hosting service on 5 mornings during the week to anyone who is comfortable skiing red runs. This is social skiing in a group with a Ski Miquel staff member leading the way, who will show you around different parts of the resort with no need for you to take out your piste map and wonder which way to go.

This also adds to the social element of the holiday, and we often find that like-minded people will make friends on our holidays and end up booking another holiday with us together the following year.

The Options

Now let’s compare what we offer on one of our package ski holidays to the elements needed to build your own trip:

1:  Non-package holiday, driving to resort and using self-catering accommodation.

A self-drive and self-catering holiday is always going to be the cheapest option, but is it really a holiday?!  You will have a long and possibly stressful drive and arrive in resort quite tired, and you will then need to do the shopping, either stopping in the valley so it’s cheaper, or taking a trip down there later if you don’t have room in the car on the way up.  Over the week you will also have to cook, wash up, and of course cover the cleaning.

You would also have to collect your own lift passes, sort out your own equipment rental and storage, or otherwise carry it back to the accommodation at the end of each day.  You would also have minimal social interaction, with no ski hosting, and no ATOL protection on the holiday.

2:  Non-package holiday with flights, car hire and self-catering accommodation, eating out on 3 nights.

For this option you would need to arrange your own flights and sort out the car hire on arrival at the airport, which all takes time, and can you fit all your luggage in the car?!  As with the first option, you would need to stop in the valley to buy food as it’s cheaper, and you would also need to do your own cooking, washing up, and cleaning, as well as collecting your own lift passes and sorting your own ski hire and storage.

For the nights you eat out, you would need to find reasonably-priced pizza/pasta restaurants to make it cost-effective, but again you would have minimal social interaction, no ski hosting, and no ATOL protection.  You would also have the hassle of digging the hire car out if it snows heavily whilst you are in resort, and you would have the stress of returning the car and finding the right drop-off point at the airport, hoping there is no damage to the car along the way!

3:  Non-package holiday with flights and transfers, self-catering accommodation, eating out on 3 nights.

This would be as above, but with transfers to and from resort instead of the hassle of sorting a hire car.

4:  Bed & Breakfast hotel stay.

For this option you would need to arrange your own flights and private transfers and stay in a hotel offering bed & breakfast, and you would need to choose a restaurant to eat out at each night.  You would also need to collect your own lift passes and sort your own ski hire and storage.  Again, you would have minimal social interaction and no ski hosting, and no ATOL protection on the holiday.

We are comparing the prices of the four options noted above at all our resorts on two different weeks of the season, also against another tour operator.  We chose Montgenèvre to start as it is a popular and reasonably-priced family resort in France, then Saalbach as it is a firm Austrian favorite, then on to Serre Chevalier which will be followed by the rest of our resorts.

As you will see below, the numbers speak for themselves:

Summary

As you will note from the figures, you can save money by choosing the option of driving to the resort and staying in self-catered accommodation for the week, but there is a lot of work involved in putting the trip together, plus all the shopping, cooking, washing up, cleaning, etc.

Our holiday package prices are cheaper than the other 3 options referred to above, by at least a few hundred pounds in most cases, and it’s clear to see how much value you get from a Ski Miquel package holiday.

So why not treat yourself to the holiday you deserve and book with us today!  Our full price listing can be found here.
