New Pontillas gondola lift
The New Pontillas Gondola - Coming for Winter 2023/24
Opening in December 2023, the brand new Pontillas gondola lift in Serre Chevalier will replace the old lift and will take you up the mountain at a speed of 7 metres per second!
With 10 seats in each cabin, the new gondola will take skiers and snowboarders from the base station at 1388m up to the Méa plateau at 2255m. The valley station will be located in the same position as the old lift, but from the top of the lift you will have the option of skiing a new beginner's piste, or heading on further up the mountain.
The investment of 26 million Euros was made to increase sustainability in the ski area, as the new lift uses less energy to take people up the mountain compared to the old lift on this site.
It also reduces the need for snow-making facilities lower down the mountain, as it can take beginners up to a higher altitude. The new base station uses recycled materials, and the electrical and mechanical parts from the old lift are also being used in other ski resorts.
